Area man Edgar Eidelson woke up last Thursday morning and could not recall what had happened on Wednesday. He could remember Tuesday like it was yesterday – and for al intents and purposes in Edgar’s mind, it was!
Upon further reflection, as he sat and ate his rice cereal with brown sugar on top, recalling his trip to the grocery store on Sunday. It then dawned on him that he could not remember one thing he had done on Monday.
The scientific name is indecisive amnesia, from the Latin “in” (not) and “decidere” (to cut off) and the Greek “a-” (α-): meaning “without” or “loss of” “mnēstis” (μνήστις): meaning memory”
Edgar decided that, until the medical community comes up with a cure, he would just write everything he does on his amnesia day. But to complicate the issue, Edgar discovered that he also has an alternating day forgetfulness. So he forgets that he is going to write things down.
He initially wrote the reminder note the day ahead of his forgetful day, to no avail, as he could not remember what the note was referring to.
When asked for his impressions of his dilemma, Edgar just said he was glad he was married.But he only recalls his wife every other day. Other times, he just thinks there is a strange woman in his house. “But she seems nice, and she always makes me a meal, so I can’t complain.”
