Area Man Sets Guinness World Record for Hide N’ Seek

Area man Stan Van Dundee demonstrates his technique in setting a new Guinness record for Hide N Seek. “It was something that I’ve always been able to do, I guess, since I was a kid and started playing the game. I started playing when I was very, very young. I think maybe even before I could walk. My older brothers and sisters started me out with my mother, playing another game called “peek-a-boo”. I don’t know if any of your readers are familiar with that one.”

The reporter encouraged Stan to go on describing the road that led him to the record books.

“Well, as I say, I was really young, and I guess maybe it also was a way to teach me my numbers, because they would just say to me, “Stanley, you start counting, and when you get to one hundred, you come looking for us.” And so that’s what I did. Then it got to be “Count to five-hundred Stanley” and then finally one thousand!”

This adventure had this reporter sitting on the edge of his seat with anticipation, and he asked Stan to continue.

“Well, as you can see, it got to be pretty incredible, and here is where the Guinness Book of World Records folks got interested. We played the game for years. My older siblings would even invite friends over to play with me. I guess I was impressing them even then. As you can see, I like to tell the story. In fact, some say I like to talk too much! A chatterbox! I guess I go on and on and on a bit too much, so people get a little tired of it.

In fact, this reporter’s behind was starting to get tired of sitting on the edge of his seat, but needed to get to the end of the story before deadline, so we moved forward.

“So I do talk a bit, and sometimes folks do say I get a bit long…” “Yes, AND…” This reporter interjected.  Stanley continued, and continued and continued. “So, it kind of just followed me into adulthood, and my siblings kind of passed it on to my friends and family. This hide-and-seek game.”

“And… Stanley?” This reporter was now starting to nod off a bit, but still maintaining professionalism while beginning to grow desperate as the clock was ticking..

“So, as I was saying, here is when the Guinness Book folks got wind of my amazing streak. In all the years I’ve been playin and countin, and playin and countin, and playing…”

“YES, STANLEY!” This reporter now insisted.

“Yes, in all these years of seeking, I have yet to find the hiders. It’s like they disappear, sometimes for days or even weeks. When I see them again, I start to ask them about how they were able to hide so well…”

“THANK YOU, Stanley.” At this point, this reporter asked Stanley if he would mind demonstrating his skills and technique in this challenging game. And I made my way to the nearest exit! Thank you, Stanley.
